New Dev Site Layout

Well I decided to finally update my dev space with a new layout. Check it out.. Feedback is welcome. Cardoe’s Devspace

In other news, specifically MythTV releated, I’ve restarted work on my MythTV install guide. MythTV Install Guide. MythTV is also beginning a switch to MediaWiki from the crap-tacular MoinMoin. I’m also assisting in those efforts. And to round out a good MythTV offering, I’m working on efforts to Doxygen the MythTV sources. More info will come on that later.

In Mono/C# news, I’ve got a working ebuild for F-Spot which is an awesome picture book/manager program. I’ve also begun helping one of my senior project group members with writing an AIM bot but in C#.

And lastly, ndiswrapper, that wonderful thing… looks like I’m going to be packaging up a 1.1rc3 release shortly for people to break their teeth on.

Oh and before I forget, my laptop HD is still dying. So if anyone has a 20gb or larger laptop HD they’re not using and wants to sell it cheap ;) Lemme know.

I want my computer to make the sound of a yeti!!!

So it’s like 4am and all of a sudden there’s a loud double pop followed by a fairly sizable bang. I looked around and noticed that my TV, VCR, DVD player and MythTV box appeared to have no power. So I flicked the switch on the surge protector and the flashing 12:00’s come back to life. So I pressed the power button on my MythTV box…. nothing. uh oh. The box is dead.

Well I had two tests so I ignored it for the time being and went back to studying. Maybe like 4 hrs later I decided to review some PDF files my teacher posted online and as soon as Adobe pops up the HD in my laptop makes the click noise like it’s restarting. Then again… and again… and again… Now it’s howling and yelling like Chewy from Star Wars. And that’s how I knew it was going to be a good day.

On a side note, I’ve always known and said that Adobe is a beast of a program and insanely large. It should not swamp a laptop processor to display a tiny PDF file. Whatever black voodoo magic Adobe has… it needs to be removed.

But just letting the laptop sit there for about 10 hrs with the power off and thinking about what it did helped its conscious decide it needed to work for me… not against me.

And follow that off by a quick swap of PSU’s in my MythTV box and I was back up and running. However I bet the MythTV box will do the same thing shortly. The box consistently gets way to hot and locks up sometimes during big compiles (i.e. glibc) from heat. I had to put some cheap no name, light, crappy PSU in there cause it’s all I had.

Any recommendations for good MythTV cases? Good cooling needed obviously.. but quiet!

Yeah so it’s been more then a little while now. It’s been months since I’ve written a blurb on here. I’ve decided I’m going to try to post here more often, but rather then complain about life, I’m going to write about Linux related things that I’m working on.

But my time is being eaten by working and school. Currently I’m taking 18 credit hours while maintaining 25 hrs a week at work. It’s a bit grueling and tiring.

The extra time I have, yeah… like 3am… has been spent watching TV… But not just any TV, I’ve been watching TV I record on my computer, which strips out the commercials so I don’t have to be bothered by those things. Due to my involvement with Gentoo Linux, I’ve become really involved in this program. It’s called MythTV and it’s freaking awesome.

And the final bit of my time has been taken up by my senior project. My group is working on re-creating Hero’s Quest the board game. Never played it so I don’t really know much about it. At some point I might make a release available off our site.
